How is Jesus viewed in Hinduism?

Biblical Background

(From a Hindu perspective shaped by diverse traditions), Jesus is often seen as a holy man, guru, enlightened teacher, or even an avatar of God. Although Hindu scriptures do not mention Jesus directly, Hindu thinkers frequently integrate Him into their philosophical frameworks.

Historical Context

Encounters between Christianity and Hinduism led Hindu reformers such as Gandhi and Vivekananda to admire Jesus as a moral example and teacher of nonviolence, compassion, and divine love.

Theological Meaning

Hinduism’s pluralism allows followers to revere Jesus without accepting exclusive Christian claims. Some Hindus interpret Jesus as a manifestation of divine truth, while others see Him as a spiritual master. Hindu interpretations vary widely due to the religion’s diversity.
