Question 49 · End Times
How does Jesus instruct believers to live in light of the end times?
Biblical Background
Jesus emphasizes watchfulness, holiness, faithfulness, and readiness. He warns against spiritual complacency and calls believers to stay alert, pray, and keep their lamps burning (Luke 12:35–40). Jesus insists that no one knows the day or hour of His return, so every day must be lived with expectation.
Historical Context
Early Christians lived with urgency but not panic. They endured persecution, practiced generosity, and remained steadfast because they believed Christ could return at any moment.
Theological Meaning
Living in light of the end means aligning one’s life with God’s kingdom—pursuing righteousness, loving others, rejecting sin, and serving faithfully. Jesus calls His followers to be ready, active, and hopeful. End-time living is not fear-driven but hope-filled.
